Tim Winton is an australian writer, and this story takes place in Australia.

At the beginning it was hard to read because there are a lot of words about fishermen or landscapes that I didn't understand. But then I've been caught by the story.
I sometimes feel like this girl whose behaviour is not intended to hurt. Nevertheless as people are expecting a certain reaction in front of such kind of event they are shocked when she is reacting in another way.
For example when her mother died, she wanted, as a nurse, to wash her body for the last time. But she arrived too late, the body was already at the hospital. Then she didn't want to see the body before the funeral with so many people around. Her sisters were very upset that she didn't come with them, they could have looked like united sisters but she was missing.
