La carte et la montre

La carte et la montre, ce sont les fondamentaux du pilote.
Cela marche aussi pour le voyageur, quel que soit son mode de locomotion.
Après avoir longtemps cherché les fondamentaux (les repères, le modèle) qui me convenaient le mieux, je me suis retrouvée dans ceux ci.
Map and clock are the fundamental elements of the pilot.
They are essentiel for the traveller too, whatever his mean of transportation.
Having searched a long time for the essentials (some cornerstones, a model) that suited me best, I finally find myself in those.
J'avais commencé avec les musiciens, mais je n'ai jamais eu leur patience et le courage de me remettre au travail tous les jours pour réussir à maitriser quelque chose. Je les admire vraiment. Et quand je vais à un concert je n'écoute pas, mais j'observe leur concentration, leur application, leur dextérité. Cela m'émerveille plus que le son (mon oreille confond tout).
I started with the model of musicians, but I never had their patience and the resolution to restart to work day after day to master something. I am really impressed by them. And when I'm going to a concert I'm not listening, but I'm looking their concentration, their care and their dexterity. That amaze me more than the sound (my ear is mixing everything).
Les sportifs ? Se fatiguer, s'essoufler pour toujours finir dernière. Je suis vraiment trop fainéante, et en plus çà fait mal. J'avais retenu "l'essentiel est de participer" et je n'avais pas intégré ce que pouvait être l'esprit de compétition, la rage de vaincre. Il a fallu que mes petits frères fassent des compétitions de ski et que je cotoie quotidiennement des acharnés du sport pour comprendre un peu plus. Depuis j'ai vraiment assimilé l'intérêt et l'avantage de chercher toujours et encore la victoire. Mais je ne peux pas m'identifier à ce modèle.
Sportsmen ? Get tired, be out of breethe for being the last one, as usual. I'm really too much lazy, and furthermore it hurts. I remembered "The most important is to participate" and I didn't understood what could be the competitive spirit, the will to win. I needed to see my little brothers attending skiing events, and to live near sport-addicts to, at last, understand a little more. Les scouts, "toujours prêt", "la guide ne fait rien à moitié". C'était déjà trop atroce de ne pas se sentir à la hauteur après y avoir passé tant d'années. Etre convaincue que cela faisait partie de moi, j'étais dans la trahison permanente. Trop égoïste.
Scouts, "always ready!", "the guide is not doing half of the job". It was still so much difficult
not to feel at the aim of the expectency after so many years. Being convinced that it was part of me, I was always feeling like a betrayer. Too much selfish.
Le pilote (d'avion en particulier). Qui s'amuse à faire des exercices de maniabilité, qui n'est respectable que s'il ose sortir par tous les temps, mais en toute sécurité, c'est à dire avec tous les reflexes aiguisés. Moi qui ne volait que par beau temps et qui ne me sent à l'aise qu'avec un instructeur, "au cas où" il pourra bien reprendre les commandes. Cela me semblait quand même raisonnable voire même respectable et gage de sagesse de se pas sortir dans une météo non conforme avec mes propres limites.
The pilot (particularly of plane). Whos is playing with maniability exercises, who is respectable only if he dares flying whatever the weather, but safe, that is to say with all the reflexes well trained. I flew only by good weather, and I felt at ease only with an instructor, then "in case" he could take over the controls. I thought it was reasonnable and even respectable and sign of wisdom not to fly without a weather in accordance with my own limits.
Le voyageur. C'est bien là que je me retrouve. Même au boulot, je suis une nomade, entre 2 endroits, entre 2 postes. En préparant et en vivant mon voyage à Shanghai j'ai réalisé que c'était vraiment fondamental pour moi.
The traveller. Thats really where I recover. Even at work I am nomad, between 2 places, 2 jobs. When preparing then experiencing my trip to Shanghai, I realised that it was really fundamental for me.
J'ai ressorti mes cartes il n'y a pas très longtemps et maintenant j'ai retrouvé une montre à mon poignet.
I got my maps out again a few months ago and now I have a watch again on my wrist.
J'ai relu une phrase de Paulo Coehlo récemment. Il faut à la fois prendre le temps de profiter du paysage, des rencontres en chemin, et en même temps ne pas oublier la montre sinon on risque de ne pas arriver en lieu sûr avant la nuit. On peut changer d'itinéraire, se dérouter, changer d'avis mais la carte et la montre nous permettrons de faire les bons choix en fonction du contexte.
I read a sentence from Paulo Coehlo recently. It is necessary to take time for looking around at the landscape, for making encounters along the way, but in the meantime it is necessary not to forget the watch unless we might not be in a safe place before night. We can change the route, change our mind, but the map and the watch will guide us to make the good choice knowing the context.
